Royals defeat Knights 81-53 to advance to Radisson Invitational Championship Game

SCRANTON, PA: (Nov. 19, 2010) – Jose Ortiz '13 (Philadelphia, PA/Math, Civic, and Science) came off the bench to score 15 points and pull down 6 rebounds, both team highs, but the Knights (1-2) were outdone by the Royals of the University of Scranton (1-0) in the first round of the Radisson Invitational by a score of 81-53. 

In the first ever meeting between these two teams, the Knights started the game on an excellent run, and although the lead changed hands 11 times in the first half, Arcadia held a six-point lead with 5:31 to go in the 1st half.  But the Royals, in their season opening game, were beginning to get hot from behind the three point line and went on a 16-3 run to close the first half up by 7, 37-30.  Despite being down at the half, the Knights shot 41.4% from the field as well as had 5 blocks.

The 2nd half was a different story as the Royals pulled even further ahead of the Knights with a 16-9 run and continued their dominance.   Outscoring Arcadia by 21 in the half, the Royals shot an impressive 80% from three-point range (8-10) and 54.8% from the field.  The Knights on the other hand shot only 30.4% including 16.7% from behind the three-point arc. 

Despite the negative outcome, the Knights' players contributed all over the court.  Aaron Benusis '14 (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) was a force on the defensive end of the court recording a team high 7 blocks, while Lester Owens '11 (Manalapan, NJ/St. Joe Metuchen) dished out 6 assists to 0 turnovers.  Damien Palantino 'GR (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) also up put up 9 points, 6 of which were from 3-pointers.  First year Eric O'Hora (Scranton, PA/Holy Cross) came off the bench to record 2 pts., 1 rb. and 1 steal in 13 minutes in his homecoming.  Scranton was led by Zach Ashcroft's team high 21 points (5-7 3pt FG).  The Roayls also got 13 points from Dan Hilferty who went 6-6 from the floor as well as Luke Hawk's 10 rebounds.

The Knights will look to snap an early 2-game losing streak and go for third place in the Radisson Invitational's consolation game against D'Youville College (Buffalo, NY).  Game time is set for 2 PM at the University of Scranton's Long Center.
