Knights go 2-1 at Penn State Berks Tri-Match

READING, PA:  (Sept. 18, 2010)  -  Arcadia University Women's Volleyball fell to the Shorewomen of Washington College by a 3-0 margin but rebounded with a hard-fought 3-2 win over host Penn State Berks and 3-1 victory over Delaware Valley at the Penn State Berks Tri-Match in Reading, PA.   

In the opening match of the day, the Shorewoman put together 25-17, 25-18, 25-18 wins to take the sweep.  In the first set against Arcadia, the Shorewomen used a 7-0 run to turn a 16-14 lead into a 23-14 cushion.  It was more of the same in the second set as Washington turned a 14-12 deficit into a 22-15 advantage by going on a 10-1 run. The Shorewomen controlled the third set, building double-digit leads three times.  The Shorewomen registered a .304 hitting percentage to the Knight's .060.  Senior Natasha Wetten(Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin East) led Arcadia with nine kills and nine digs, while first year setter Carlee Rossiter (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) added 26 assists in the opener. 

Things looked dismal to start the second match against host Penn State Berks, following a 25-8 loss in game one, however, head coach Tony Carpenter settled his team down and they responded, winning the next two games 25-22 and 26-24.  Game four had images of the first with Arcadia dropping the set 25-14 however, the Knights turned it back on in the deciding fifth set with a 15-13 win for the 3-2 victory (8-25, 25-22, 26-24, 14-25, 15-13).  Junior Erin Ficca (Exton, PA/Bishop Shanahan), sophomore Delaney Dobson (Horsham, PA/Archbishop Wood) and junior Hailey Barger (Sitka, AK/Sitka) combined for 32 of the Knights' 48 kills in the game.  Leading the team with 4 service aces, Ficca, sophomore Jessyca Stoler (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) and Wetten added 13 digs apeice while Rossiter assisted on 11 kills, layed down 3 aces and led the team with 3 solo blocks.   

In the final match of the day, Arcadia ran past Delaware Valley College 3-1 with set scores of 25-19, 23-25, 25-23 and 27-25.  The Knights improve to 4-5 overall on the year.  The team will open the Commonwealth schedule this Tuesday, Sept. 21 traveling to Elizabethtown College for a 7 PM match.
