GLENSIDE, PA: (Sept. 22, 2010) - Arcadia University Women's Soccer registered win no. 6 on the season with a 2-1 victory over Cabrini College Wednesday afternoon in Glenside. The Knights remain undefeated at home and improve to 6-2-1 overall. Cabrini falls to 6-2 overall (1-0 CSAC).
Arcadia, ranked #7 in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll for the Mid Atlantic region, hosted the #6 ranked Cavaliers, whom the Knights defeated by a 1-0 score a season ago, taking control of the game early, lighting up the scoreboard just 3:10 into today's contest. Junior Ashley Knueppel (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) played a through ball to senior Janelle Jablonski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) who found junior Brittany Drosdak (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) inside the box. Drosdak sent her shot into the right corner past Cabrini keeper Maddy Edwards for the 1-0 Arcadia lead.
The game would remain in Arcadia's favor for the next thirty five minutes when the Knights took full advantage of a free kick which first year Rachel Dolly (North East, MD/North East) sent into the back of net into the upper right corner giving her team a two goal cushion at 38:41.
The Knights 2-0 lead stood through the next thirty two minutes when the Cavaliers would finally convert on one of their 6 shots on goal for the game. Sammy Thompson scored unassisted in the 70th minute of play for Cabrini, her shot taken from outside of the box and sent past Knight's sophomore keeper Jackie Law (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains Fanwood) to make it a 2-1 Arcadia lead, which would stand as the final score.
Arcadia outshot the Cavaliers 15-6 and earned the edge in corner opportunities 6-2. Law made 5 stops in goal for Arcadia, while Edwards made 10 for the Cavaliers. Drosdak and Dolly finished with one goal apiece for the Knights with assists added by Knueppel and Jablonski.
The Knights return to action this Saturday at DeSales University. Kick off is scheduled for 1 pm.
