MADISON, N.J. (January 17, 2011) - The Rangers were able to open up a 12 point lead at the break and never looked back as Drew Univerity defeated Arcadia University 60-37 Monday evening in non-conference women's basketball.
The Drew (8-7) defense held Arcadia (6-9) to just 37 points, the lowest by a Ranger opponent this season. After an impressive afternoon of shooting on Saturday that led to the team's first Commonwealth Conference win, the Knights shot a dismal 28 percent from the floor while going 2-16 from three-point land and only 45.5 from the free throw line. The Rangers also won the turnover battle forcing 21 compared to Drew's 17 and owned a 52-34 advantage on the boards.
After the Knights captured their first lead of the evening midway through the first half, the Rangers offense ignited and went 12-0 run in a two minute span. Nine of those points came off three-pointers while the other three came of the traditional three-point play as Jen Mateo (Union City, N.J./Union City) capped off the double-digit run with the hoop and the harm. Mateo once again served as the Ranger cataylst dishing off a game-high eight assists to go along with eight points. Drew (7-7) sophomore Dana Coronato (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) recorded her first career double-double, scoring 21 points and pulling down 10 boards.
The Knights were led by Jackie Law '13 and Christine Taylor '12 who each scored 8 points and pulled down 5 rebounds. Christie Kershaw '14 scored 6 points and earned 5 boards while Corrine Geiger '11 added 5 points and 5 rebounds.
Arcadia (6-9, 1-4 CC) return to league play this Wednesday at Albright College at 6 PM.
