Dutchmen hand Knights a 69-55 loss in Commonwealth play

GLENSIDE, PA (01/08/11) – The Arcadia University Men's Basketball Team (4-8 Overall 0-3 Commonwealth) was not able to hold things down on the defensive end this afternoon to offset a poor shooting performance in their first conference game of the new year against Lebanon Valley College (9-4 Overall 1-2 Commonwealth).  The Knights shot only 31.8% (21-66) from the field en route to a 69-55 loss to the Dutchmen.

The Dutchmen were able to take the lead at the 18:50 mark of the half and were able to hold it the rest of the game despite efforts from the Knights to battle back.  Arcadia was outscored Lebanon Valley off the bench by an 11-4 margin but was not able to hold their own against the Dutchmen's post game where they were outscored 16-4.  Lebanon Valley was able to take a 33-21 lead in the locker room at halftime.

The second half was a much better for the Knights outscored by just 2 by the end of the half.  The Knights also toned up their ball handling skills not turning the ball over at all in the half while holding a 6-0 advantage in points off turnovers.  The Dutchmen, though, were able to nab their biggest lead of the afternoon, a 26 point spread at the 7:28 mark and again at the 6:00 mark, but the Knights were able to keep on fighting, cutting the lead to 14 by the end of the game in a 69-55 final.

Arcadia did have three players in double figures despite the loss.  Damien Palantino 'GR (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) put up 10 points along with four rebounds while junior Jason Thompson (Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Township) contributed 11 points along with four assists.  Colin McCarthy '12 (Langhorne, PA/Holy Ghost Prep) came off the bench to put up a team high 17 points along with another team high seven rebounds in his 28 minutes of work.  The Dutchmen were lead by Danny Brooks' team high 12 points as well as Grant Becker's 12 rebounds.

The Knights will look to put this loss behind them and go for their first conference win of the season when they welcome the Crusaders of Alvernia University this Wednesday evening for a Commonwealth Conference match up with a tip off scheduled for 8 PM at the Kuch Center.
