Drew holds off Knights comeback effort

Box Score MADISON, NJ:  Arcadia University shaved a 13 point deficit down to 6 with a 9-0 run ending with 48 seconds to play but the Drew University Rangers held on to win Tuesday night's non-conference game 85-80.  The Knights (1-2) got a game high 27 points from junior Khalief Trawick who went 10-13 from the floor, including 3-3 from three point land.

Despite Trawick's great performance, Drew's guard-forward combo of Terrell Brown and Dara McKeon proved to be too much for the Knights. Brown finished with 21 points, 7 assists and 10 rebounds while McKeon scored 17 and dished out 5.

After a long, rainy bumper to bumper bus ride to Madison, the Knights started out slow as they were down 38-29 at the half on only 35% shooting.

Arcadia continued to struggle in the second, yet with 12:30 remaining it looked as if the Knights were about to make a run after two consecutive free throws from freshmen Jose Figueroa to cut the lead back to nine, 53-44.  A run was made but not by the Knights, rather, it was the Rangers who went on a 16-0 run in just a two-minute span at 12:18, where Drew connected on four straight 3-pointers, to push the lead out to 69-44.  At this point Arcadia could have packed it in and got ready for Thanksgiving break but the young Knights fought and clawed their way back to within 6  with 48 seconds to play but the late effort was unsuccessful, falling by five in regulation.

In addition to 27 points, Trawick finished with 5 rebounds.  Freshmen Joe Brown finished with 16 points, 8 points and 3 rebounds in his best performance to date as a Knight.

The Knights shot 47.6% from the floor, 33.3% from long-range and 65.2% from the stripe while equaling the Rangers in rebounds 38-38.  Drew scorched the nets shooting 50% from the field, 50% from three-point range with the only poor shooting coming from the line, as the Rangers shot only 50%.

Arcadia plays its home and Commonwealth Conference opener on Nov. 30th against Elizabethtown College at 8 p.m.
