Women's Tennis Pound Albright, 7-2

GLENSIDE, Pa., Thursday, April 21, 2011-- Eight matches into the 2010-11 season, Arcadia University Women's Tennis finally found the win column, in their final Commonwealth Conference match of the season Thursday afternoon at home hosting the Lions of Albright College. But for No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, the Knights swept all other matches without too much difficulty to improve to 1-7 overall.

At No. 5 singles, Danielle Riggins fought it out with Albright's Nazma Ali, after fallling in the first set 4-6, the first-year responded winning the second set 6-4 to force a third set tie-breaker which she won 10-7. It was Riggins' first collegiate win at singles. In doubles action, the pairing of first year's Melissa D'Arcangelo and Jasmine Peake took Albright's Kelly Irwin and Ali all the way to a 9-7 victory. Graduate student Irina Samson went out on top, playing her final conference match of her career, topping Albright's Desiree Owle 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and helping first-year Hannah Christensen to her first collegiate victory where they were paired at No. 3 doubles, in a 8-1 victory over Albright's Darleny Melo/Atiya Lewis.

Arcadia plays one final non-league contest this season, at home against Gwynedd-Mercy on April 28.
