Field Hockey lead slips away at Stockton

Pomona, NJ – [Box Score] Arcadia University Field Hockey allowed a one goal lead to slip away as Stockton College (1-0) scored three straight to claim a 3-1 victory on Thursday evening in non-conference field hockey action.

The Knights (0-1) opened the scoring in their season opener, as junior Marilyn Beatty (Chalfont, PA/North Penn) scored on an assist from sophomore Ashley Ditchey (Nicholson, PA/Lackawanna Trail) to give Arcadia a 1-0 lead just 6:15 into the match. Arcadia held to a one goal lead for nearly twenty-one minutes until Stockton sophomore Susie Balidemaj tied the game on a feed from Nancy White at 27:24 to knot the score at 1-1.

Jenny Carpenter gave Stockton the lead for good just 2:58 into the second half as she scored after a loose ball in front of the Knights net.  Despite out-shooting the Ospreys 7-5 in shots on goal, the Knights just couldn't knock one in. Nikki Moore gave Stockton an insurance tally on a penalty stroke just over 10 minutes later to set the 3-1 final score.  The Ospreys ended the game with a narrow 14-13 lead in shots.

Stockton first year goalie Liz Stankiewicz earned her first career win in net for the Ospreys as she made six saves in her college debut.  Junior Sarah Baumgardner (Hatboro, PA/Upper Moreland) kicked out two shots for Arcadia.

Arcadia takes on Salisbury at the Wilkes University Tournament on Saturday. The contest is scheduled for a 3:30 pm start.
