Aggies exhaust Field Hockey in strokes

DOYLESTOWN, Pa.:  Arcadia University traveled to local rival Delaware Valley College Wednesday afternoon for their annual non-conference field hockey dual with this one needing two overtimes and strokes to determine a winner as the host Aggies were the first team to send three strokes into the cage and take the win 2-1.  Arcadia's winless streak grows to 7 since the season began, all but one of those games decided by two goals or less. Delaware Valley improves to 2-4 overall with today's win.

After a scoreless first half, Arcadia waited just 1:13 to light the scoreboard on an unassisted goal from junior Marilyn Beatty (Chalfont, PA/North Penn).  But the Knight's lead would last just four minutes when DelVal's Melissa Milanese fed Leah Hawthorn for the equalizer.  The teams would scrap through the remaining 30 minutes and come up empty, needing extra minutes to determine a victor.

Arcadia had out-shot the Aggies 16-4 through regulation and 14-2 in corners through the 4 periods.  The first overtime came and went, and for the first time all game, the Aggies led the period in shots 5-4.  The second overtime was tightly played, as neither team could find an opening, despite Arcadia generating 3 corner opportunities.  Arcadia's defense was highlighted by a strong performance from first year Katrina Dull (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh), a determining factor in forcing the game-deciding stroke-off.

Junior Sarah Baumgardner (Hatboro, PA/Upper Moreland) made 5 saves in the loss for the Knights.

With less than a twenty-four hour turnaround, Arcadia looks to shed the monkey on its' back Thursday, Sept. 22, hosting Keystone College in their home opener at 4 p.m.
