Twice as Knice! Knights defeat Wilkes 2-1 in OT

Knights record season's second win over Wilkes

EDWARDSVILLE, Pa.:  Facing each other for the second time since the season began, Arcadia University Women's Soccer took it to the Wilkes University Colonels once again, although needing overtime to secure this one, coming back from a one-goal deficit and scoring the game winner on an own goal just 25 seconds into the extra-stanza to win 2-1.

Ranked No. 3 in the latest Mid-Atlantic NSCAA poll, as well as having received votes in the national rankings, the Knights improve to 6-1-1 overall.  Wilkes drops to 4-2 overall.

Arcadia dominated offensively and played their usual stonewall defensive scheme while forcing Wilkes keeper Sam Lindo into working for her 7 first half saves.  While Arcadia generated 12 first half shots, the game remained scoreless at the half.

A quick shift of momentum saw Ashley Graham put the hosts on top in 58th minute, scoring unassisted, forcing Arcadia, already in command of the game, to play catch up.

It wasn't a problem for the Knights, having scored four on Wilkes in their previous meeting this month.  The equalizer eventually came in the 63rd minute.  Junior Lauryn Miller (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) registered her first goal of 2011 and gave sophomore Rachel Dolly (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) her 6th point of the season on the assist.  Despite Arcadia's control of possession, and one final look from Miller in the 89th minute that was saved by Lindo, the two teams would play the final 27 minutes without a settled score, heading into overtime tied at 1.

Overtime was over before it really began. Senior Brittany Drosdak (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) played a beautiful cross to junior Alex Davis (Moorestown, NJ/Moorsetown) who saw an opening and drilled her shot into the goal mouth, banking it off a Wilkes defender and into the net and that was the game.

Arcadia owned the ball for nearly 90 minutes, out-shooting Wilkes 25-5.  Junior keeper Jackie Law (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains Fanwood), faced 5 shots, 2 on goal, making one save for the win.  Lindo finished with 12 saves for Wilkes.

Arcadia moves on to face Delaware Valley on Wednesday, Sept. 28 in Doylestown.  Kick-off is set for 4 p.m. Commonwealth Conference play begins Saturday, Oct. 1 with the Knights hosting Albright College at 12 Noon.
