Volleyball falls in straight sets to Shoreman

GLENSIDE, Pa.: The visiting Shoreman of Washington College (Md.) held Arcadia University at bay for straight sets Tuesday evening at the Kuch Center, winning the non-conference volleyball match by a 3-0 margin.  Arcadia, playing minus three of their veteran starters this evening, falls to 0-2 to start the season.

Set scores were: 25-18, 25-18, 27-25.

Arcadia was within reach early on in set one, trailing by just 2 (8-6) prior to a 7 point rally by the Shoreman to make the spread 15-6 and keep the first set out of reach for the Knights.  The visitors quickly ran out to a 7 point lead in set two as Jenny Lee layed down one of her game high 5 service aces for a 9-2 lead for the Shoreman.  Lee finished as the top attacker for Washington College (4-1), earning 12 kills. The Knights would narrow their deficit to 5 (20-15) but Washington racked up five more kills taking a 2 sets to none lead over Arcadia.  In set three, it was Arcadia taking the early lead, remaining in front by four (15-11).  Twice, the Shoreman would knot the score but each time a kill from sophomore Krista Hsu (Newark, DE/Delcastle Tech) allowed Arcadia to remain in front.  Three straight Shoreman kills put the visitors on top 23-20, yet again, the Knights rallied to tie the set up at 24 apeice but were unable to pull out the win to force a fourth game.

The Knights (0-2) were paced by 8 kills apeice from senior Hailey Barger (Sitka, AK/Sitka) and sophomore Melissa D'Arcangelo (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield).  Junior Jessyca Stoler (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) served up 21 assists and dug for a team high of 13 while Hsu added 6 kills and 12 digs.

Arcadia returns to action at home this Thursday, Sept. 8 hosting Immaculata University at 7 p.m.
