Knights Defeat Garnet to Stay Unbeaten at Home

Box Score GLENSIDE, PA:  First year Joe Brown scored 17 points to help Arcadia University Men's Basketball remain unbeaten at home with tonight's 87-59 victory over visiting Swarthmore College in non-conference play. 

The Knights (7-4 Overall, 2-0 Commonwealth) led by 24 at halftime, 48-24 and placed five players in double-figure scoring.  First year Aaron Lee-Webb (Norristown, PA/Norristown) and senior Jason Thompson (Cape May Courthouse, NJ/Middle Twp.) scored a dozen apeice while returning junior Malcolm Still and first year Jose Figueroa (Philadelphia, PA/Plumstead Christian) added 11 apeice for Arcadia. 

Swarthmore (1-10 Overall, 1-3 Centennial) was led by a game high 25 from Will Gates. Gates pulled in 11 rebounds to lead the Garnet who out-rebounded the Knights 44-30.

The Knights opened up an 8-0 lead after four minutes of play, a margin that grew to 15 for Arcadia with 9:08 to go in the opening half.  A three from Thompson at 11:22 put Arcadia in front for good by double-figures and back-to-back buckets from first year Joe Brown (Philadelphia, PA/LaSalle) inside of the ten minute mark stretched Arcadia's lead to 15.  Second-semester addition Malcolm Still '13 (Lawnside, NJ/Living Faith) dropped a trey at 8:06 en-route to a 5 for 7 night shooting to finish with 11 points.  Still, who returns to the team after playing for the Knights his freshman season, added 4 assists and a game-high 4 steals.  

Thompson, who went 4 for 7 from long-range, sank another triple at 4:19 to put his Knights up by 20 with Lee-Webb banking one off the window to close first half scoring with the Knights in front 48-24.  Arcadia received solid play from their bench, outscoring the Garnet 24-10 in the opening half and 45-22 through regulation. 

The Knights performed even better in the second stanza, where they shot an impressive 60.9% from the floor and 46.7% from three-point land.  Arcadia went up by as many as 34 late in the second half.  A deep three from sophomore Mike Fitzpatrick (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield), two layups from junior Khalief Trawick (Philadelphia, PA/Franklin Learning Center) and four straight free throws, two from Brown and two from Trawick put a victory stamp the Knights 4th home win of the season. Fitzpatrick went perfect from the field in his 6 minutes of action to finish with 5 points while Trawick added 8 points.

Swarthmore shot 32.7% from the floor, 33.3% from long-range and 68% from the line.

Tonight's win was the second straight for Arcadia who travels to non-conference Berkeley College (at New Jersey Institute of Technology) this Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip.  The team returns to conference play with Commonwealth rival Alvernia University next Wed., Jan. 11 in Reading, with a 6 p.m. tip-off.
