Field Hockey Drops First Conference Game

Box Score

READING, PA (October 2, 2012) - On Tuesday afternoon the Arcadia University field hockey team (8-2, 2-1)  dropped a tough conference match-up with Alvernia University (5-6, 1-2)  by a score of 2-1.

The Crusaders opened the scoring with 28 minutes remaining in the first half off a Miranda Peto pass to Erin Solley for a 1-0 Alvernia lead going into halftime.

In the second half, Solley and the Crusaders lined up for a penalty corner. Solley found Amanda Galati at the top of the circle and Galanti fired the ball towards the cage. Peto was able to get a piece on the ball and deflect it off her stick for the second goal.

With a two-goal Crusader advantage, the Knights stopped the clock with a time out. Coming out of the timeout Arcadia's freshman Debbie Wolfe scored Arcadia's first goal to cut the deficit in half.

The Crusader defense held tough in the remaining 20 minutes getting saves from defenders and their goal keeper Erin Wunsch to keep them in the lead. Wunsch made 13 saves on the day.

This was only the Knights 2nd loss of the season, they have not dropped a contest since Sept. 11th, a 2-1 decision to Swarthmore.

The Knights will look to get back to their winning ways as they travel to Keystone College on Thursday for a 4 PM non-conference match-up.
