Women's Basketball Falls to #13 Lebanon Valley

Box Score Glenside, PA (December 5, 2012) - The Arcadia University Knights (4-3, 0-3 MCOM) dropped their third straight contest tonight, falling to the #13 Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen (6-1, 3-1 MCOM), 66-50. The Dutchmen used an 18-5 run in the first and a 14-4 run to open the second half to take a 23-point lead that the Knights could not overcome. Dominque Hassinger scored 17 points to lead Arcadia.

The Knights scored the first basket of the game, a three-pointer, but Lebanon Valley then rattled off six straight for a 6-3 lead. Arcadia scored the next four points to take the lead back at 7-6 and the game was then tied at eight with 15:22 to play in the first half. The Dutchmen then used an 18-5 run to take a 13-point lead at 26-13 at the 8:22 mark. Arcadia scored six straight to get back to within seven at 26-19, but Lebanon Valley scored the final nine points of the second half to take their largest lead and a 35-19 lead into the break.

Hassinger led the Knights with seven first half points. Lauren Ruhl had nine points to lead all scorers for the Dutchmen. Lebanon Valley shot 53% from the field while holding Arcadia to just 18%. The Knights held a slight rebounding edge, 23-20, but committed 11 turnovers while forcing eight.

Lebanon Valley started the second half on a 14-4 run that took over eight minutes off the clock and extended their advantage to 26-points at 49-23 with 11:39 to play in the second half. Arcadia scored the next three points, but the Dutchmen then went on an 11-1 run to open up a 33-point lead at 60-27 with 7:53 to play. The Knights got as close as 16 points, which was the final margin of victory for Lebanon Valley.

Hassinger was just 4-16 from the field, but was 8-12 from the line with three rebounds, five assists and five steals. Samantha Caligiuri added 13 points, while Sara DeCinque scored 11 points. Renee Fritz led the Dutchmen with 12 points. Lebanon Valley shot 49% from the field and held Arcadia to 22.8%. The Dutchmen won the board battle 49-43 and forced 21 turnovers while committing 17.

Arcadia will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to face Lycoming for a 1pm tip-off.
