Box Score Glenside, PA (December 5, 2012) - The Arcadia University Knights (4-2, 3-1 MCOM) held off a late charge by the Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen (3-4, 2-2 MCOM) and came away with a 76-67 victory tonight. The Knights had a 25-point lead with just under 14-minutes to play, but the Dutchmen got to within three with just over a minute on the clock. The Knights went 6-6 from the line in the final 30-seconds to ice the victory.
Colin McCarthy scored 18 points and took a crucial charge in the final minute to lead the Knights.
Arcadia exploded out of the gate and started the game on a 25-4 run that took over eight minutes off the clock for the 21-point lead.
Colin McCarthy went 4-5 from the field in the run and had eight of the 25 points. The score was 29-7, then Lebanon Valley scored seven straight to cut the lead to 15 points.
The Knights responded with a 9-2 run to extend their advantage to a game-high 22 points at 38-16 with 5:35 to play in the first half. The Dutchmen got to within 18 at 38-20, but the Knights ended the half scoring seven of the final 11 points to take a 45-24 lead into the break.
Khalief Trawick led the Knights with nine points in the first half. Danny Brooks led all scorers with 13 points for Lebanon Valley. Arcadia shot 52.9% from the field in the first half and held the Dutchmen to 32%. The Knights controlled the boards in the first half 22-13 and each team committed four turnovers.
Arcadia started the second half strong, extending their lead to 24 points, 50-26 at 18:27. The Knights then led 62-37 at the 13:51 mark, but Lebanon Valley then went on a 15-5 run to cue the deficit to 15 points at 67-52 with 7:27 to play.
McCarthy hit a three-pointer as the shot clock expires on the Knights next possession to make the score 70-52, but the Dutchmen scored the next 15 points to cut the Arcadia lead to three points at 70-67 with 1:11 to play.
Arcadia broke the run as
Malcolm Still hit a pair of free throws with 28-seconds left. Then McCarthy took another huge charge with 23.9 to play and Lee-Webb hit two free throws on the ensuing possession. The Knights got a third stop in a row, Lee-Webb hit to more free throws and the Knights held on for the nine point win.
McCarthy was 7-9 from the field, including 3-3 from beyond the arc. He also had dive rebounds and two steals. Lee-Webb scored 12 points, while
Joe Brown and Travis Saltus each scored 10 points. Brooks scored a game-high 31 points and had 11 rebounds for Lebanon Valley. Lebanon Valley shot 46.2% from the field, while Arcadia shot 41.9%. The Dutchmen out rebounded the Knights 35-33.
The Knights return to action on Saturday for a 3pm tip-off at Lycoming College.
