Arcadia Women's Lacrosse Returns to Freedom Schedule at Eastern

ST. DAVIDS, PA (April 24, 2012) -  After posting a 2-1 record in their last three out-of-conference games, Arcadia Women's Lacrosse returned to their Freedom Conference slate this afternoon at Eastern University. Today's game began with the possibility of the Knights making one final push to secure a spot in next week's league championship tournament.

By halftime, Arcadia found themselves battling back from a five goal deficit with time not on their side.

Although the Knights produced five scores in the second stanza, they could not overcome their 15 second-half turnovers.  With two regular starters lost to injury this season, Arcadia has relied upon their top-notch first year goal scorer Haylee Molloy '15 throughout the 2012 campaign.  Molloy entered today's game with 14 multi-goal games under her belt, having scored in all 15 games to date.  While Molloy did dish out an assist to Jaclyn Kell '15 on the Knight's final goal of the day, her 15-game scoring streak ended this afternoon, as did the Knight's hopes at securing a playoff berth.

Before the Knights were able to get on the board, the host Eagles took over 19 minutes to score the games' first 4 goals, a testament to Arcadia's defensive focus.  Arcadia's Jenna Crothers '14 took a pretty feed from Jaclyn Feffer '15 at 11:25, just less than 40 second after Eastern went up 4-0.  But that was all the scoring the Knights would get in the opening half with Eastern tacking on two more to go up 6-1 at the break.

The second half began with three free position goals, the first from Eastern for a 7-1 lead and then two straight for Arcadia, the first from Feffer and Crothers' second score of the day.  With the score Eastern 7, Arcadia 3, the Eagles still enjoyed an advantage on time of possession and began to capitalize on Arcadia's turnovers and sent three unasnwered into the back of the net for a 10-3 advantage with over 17 minutes remaining.

Feffer's second of the day made it 10-4 but Eastern's Kendall Rood scored two in a three-minute span with a third from Allie Gauthier, who finished with three goals, to put Eastern back on top 13-4.

Stephanie Welch '12 recorded her 6th goal of the season for the Knights with 6:33 remaining before Molloy found Kell for her 4th of the year seconds later to cap the game's scoring and a 13-6 final in favor of the Eagles.

Eastern (6-9, 4-2 FC) led in shots 29-16 and edged the Knights in ground balls 21-19.  Feffer was credited with 6 draw controls and eclipses the single-season program record with 104 on the year.  Feffer also added 3 caused turnovers along with 3 pts (2G, 1 A).  Molloy added 5 draws.  Johanna Castiblano '13 and Katie Bauer '14 (5 ground balls) each added 2 caused turnovers.

The loss went to starter Deanna Thompson '13 who recorded 11 saves in nearly 45 minutes of actin.  Amalie Kreitman '12 played the final 15 minutes, held Eastern off the board and made 3 saves

The Knights (7-9, 1-4 FC) play their final contest of the season this Saturday at home, hosting Misericordia University in Freedom Conference action at 1 p.m.
