Second Half Run Propels Men's Basketball Past Elizabethtown

Box Score Glenside, PA (January 30, 2013) - A 13-2 run midway through the second half gave the Arcadia University Knights (13-7, 8-5 MCOM) an 11-point lead that they would never relinquish in a 55-50 win over the Elizabethtown College Blue Jays (7-13, 4-9). The Knights picked up their 13th victory, the most in a season since winning 16 during the 2005-06 campaign. Travis Saltus led Arcadia with 16 points tonight.

The Knights jumped out of the gate quickly, scoring the first eight points for an 8-0 lead at the 17:38 mark. Arcadia then led by 10 points at 14-4 and continued to hold a 7-10 point lead. The Knights led 20-13 at the 6:59 mark, but the Blue Jays used a 12-1 run to erase the deficit and take their first lead, 25-21 with 1:35 to play. Arcadia scored the final four points of the half and the game went into the break tied at 25.

Saltus scored eight points to lead Arcadia in the first half. Ben Cable scored nine for the Blue Jays to lead all scorers. Both teams shot over 40% from the field in the first half. Arcadia held a 20-16 rebounding edge and forced nine turnovers while committing eight.

Neither team could find an offensive rhythm to start the second half as the two teams traded baskets and the score was tied at 29 at the 13:50 mark. The Knights went on an offensive and defensive surge, going on a 13-2 run that took over six minutes off the clock and gave Arcadia a 42-31 lead with 7:41 to play.

Arcadia then led 48-39, but a 6-0 run by Elizabethtown drew them to within three at 48-45 at the 1:13 mark. The Knights then went 7-8 from the line in the final minute to ice the game and come way with the six-point victory.

Saltus was 4-8 from the field and 6-6 from the line with four rebounds and two assists. Aaron Lee-Webb scored nine points and grabbed six rebounds. Cable scored 19 points for E-Town. The Knights shot 40% from the field, while the Blue Jays shot 37.5%. Elizabethtown won the rebounding battle 39-35, but committed 24 turnovers that turned into 23 Arcadia points.

Arcadia will hit the road on Saturday for a big battle at Messiah. Tip-off is slated for 7pm.
