Men's Basketball Uses Late Run to Defeat DeSales on the Road

Box Score Center Valley, PA (January 7, 2013) - Joe Brown's three-pointer with 1:09 to play gave the Arcadia University Knights (7-5) a five-point lead that they would never relinquish in a 77-68 win over the DeSales University Bulldogs (10-3). The three-point came in the midst of a 15-6 run to end the game for Arcadia. Travis Saltus scored 18 points to lead the Knights.

DeSales jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but Arcadia scored the next five points for a 5-4 lead at the 17:13 mark. The Bulldogs quickly jumped back in front 10-5 and then led 16-9 with 11:05 to play in the opening half. The Knights then used an 8-1 run to tie the game at 17 with 8:25 to play. The game remained close for the remainder of the half with Arcadia taking the lead and holding on to off. The Knights went into the break with a 35-31 lead.

John Landro led the Knights with eight first half points off the bench. Brett Moyer scored nine to lead DeSales. Arcadia outshot the Bulldogs 46.7% to 38.5% in the first half. The Knights had a slight rebounds edge, 19-17 and committed just four turnovers while forcing three.

The Bulldogs cut in the Arcadia lead to start the second half and the game was tied at 37 just over a minute into the frame.The game pin balled back and forth and then the Knights put together a 12-4 run to take a seven point advantage, 53-46 at the 12:01 mark. Arcadia then led 55-48, but DeSales used a 10-3 spurt to tie the game at 58 with 6:30 to play in the second half.

The game was then tied at 60 and 62, but the Knights ended the game on a 15-6 run that included five straight points on the triple by Brown and the lay-up by McCarthy. Arcadia also went 6-6 from the line in the final two minutes to seal the road victory.

Saltus was 7-11 from the field with three rebounds. Aaron Lee-Webb finished with 13 points and eight rebounds, while Landro scored 11 and Brown scored 10. Moyer led the Bulldogs with 23 points. Arcadia shot over 50% from the field in the win, while DeSales shot 40%. The Knights won the board battle 38-31.

Arcadia will remain on the road on Wednesday night when they travel to face Elizabethtown for an 8pm tip-off.
