Women’s Soccer Ties Widener in Battle of Regionally Ranked Foes, 2-2

Box Score CHESTER, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's soccer team tied Widener University 2-2 Saturday evening in a MAC Commonwealth contest between two teams in the top-six of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) regional rankings.
 
The Knights, who are receiving votes in the latest d3soccer.com poll and are ranked fifth in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region Rankings, moved to 10-1-4 overall and 3-0-2 in conference play. The Pride, who are ranked sixth in the region, moved to 13-1-2 overall and 3-1-1 in conference play.
 
The match was scoreless until the 65th-minute when Arcadia junior forward Kim Canfield (Hillsborough, N.J.) sent a cross from the right side of the box to senior forward Fatima Elmedkhar (Middletown, Del.), who headed the ball into the net for her fifth goal of the season. As it turned out that only set the stage for a wild finish in the final seven minutes of regulation, which saw a combined three goals.
 
Widener senior midfielder Karen Thomas (Mullica Hill, N.J.) headed in a corner kick from junior midfielder Jenna Pedrick (Sicklerville, N.J.) with 7:03 to go in regulation to tie the game at 1-1. The Knights regained the lead with 4:53 left in the second half when she headed in a cross from Canfield for her 13th goal of the year, and senior midfielder Amanda Doran (Philadelphia, Pa.) answered for the Pride when she put home a rebound with just 10 seconds left on the clock to knot the score at 2-2 and send the match into overtime. It was her first goal of the year.
 
Senior keeper Jackie Law (Scotch Plains, N.J.) recorded nine saves as her record moved to 8-1-4 for Arcadia. Fellow senior keeper Valarie Perretti (Clayton, N.J.) had 13 saves while her record 13-1-2 for Widener.
 
Both teams had identical shot numbers in each period except for the second overtime, where the Pride took both shots to finish with a 19-17 advantage for the game. Widener also held a narrow 5-4 advantage in corner kicks and had the only one in overtime.
 
The Knights will next travel to Alvernia University Wednesday for a 4 p.m. MAC Commonwealth contest.
