Women’s Basketball Drops 74-49 Decision to Stevenson In Home-Opener

Box Score GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's basketball team was outscored 44-19 in the second half as it dropped a 74-49 Commonwealth Conference decision to visiting Stevenson University in its first home game of the 2013-14 season.
 
The Mustangs improved to 4-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play with their fourth straight win. The Knights fell to 5-2 overall and 0-2 in conference play with their second consecutive loss.
 
Sophomore guard Stephanie Martinez (Freehold Township, N.J.) led Stevenson with a game-high 20 points, while junior guard Kyarra Harmon (Waldorf, Md.) netted 19 points with seven rebounds off the bench. Junior guard Kayla Kelly (Ellicott City, Md.) notched a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards to go with five assists and two steals.
 
Sophomore guard Dominique Hassinger (Franklinville, N.J.) scored 12 points with three steals for Arcadia, while sophomore forward Valerie DiMuro (Tappan, N.J.) fell just short of a double-double with eight points and 10 boards off the bench. Sophomore guard Maureen Fiocca (Philadelphia, Pa.) also scored eight points off the bench and pulled in three rebounds.
 
The Knights appeared to be well on their way to a win in the early going, opening a 23-13 after sophomore guard Mary Badeen (Newport, Maine) drained a three with 6:45 left in the first half, but the Mustangs outscored Arcadia 17-7 to close out the period and go into the locker room tied at 30-30.
 
Stevenson scored the first five points of the second half on a jumper from sophomore guard Caitlin Roy (Middletown, Md.) and a three from Martinez and never trailed again. The Mustangs used a 16-4 run to open a 16 points advantage with nine minutes to go and never looked back.
 
Stevenson shot 52 percent (15-29) from the floor in the second half and was 12-of-14 at the line, while the Knights shot just 16 percent (4-25) from the floor and 11-for-19 at the line in the second half.
 
Arcadia will look to bounce back Monday when it hosts a 6 p.m.  non-conference game against Baptist Bible College at Alumni Gymnasium.
