Joe Brown (Philadelphia, Pa.) registered his second straight double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, as the Arcadia University men's basketball team recorded an 89-75 non-conference victory over visiting Penn State-Abington Monday night at Alumni Gymnasium.
The Knights improved to 6-5 with their second straight win overall and their third in a row over the Nittany Lions, who fell to 4-4 with the loss.
Junior guard Travis Saltus (Teaneck, N.J.) netted a team-best 19 points for Arcadia, while sophomore guard
John Landro (Cornwall on Hudson, N.Y.) poured in 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field with four threes coming off the bench. Junior guard
Aaron Lee-Webb (Norristown, Pa.) netted four points while dishing out a game-high eight assists and pulling down six rebounds.
Junior forward Mike Marvin (Horsham, Pa.) scored 16 of his game-high 24 points in the seconds half and pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds to lead Penn State-Abington, while freshman forward Nisiar Smith (Philadelphia, Pa.) fell just shy of his own double-double after scoring 15 points and grabbing eight boards. Junior guard Max Alton (Pennington, N.J.) and sophomore forward Devin Jones (Philadelphia, Pa.) added 10 points each.
The Knights used a 12-0 run to take an early 18-8 lead and never trailed again the rest of the way. The Nittany Lions then scored nine straight to pull back within one before Arcadia blew the game open with a 24-3 run that gave them a 44-22 lead with 3:18 left in the first half.
Arcadia led 48-31 at the half, but Abington was able to chip away at that advantage in the second and used a seven-point spurt to get back within eight, 63-55 midway through the period. The two teams traded baskets over the next three minutes before the Knights scored five straight to push their lead back to double-digits at 74-61 with 6:20 to go and later extended their lead to 16 with a minute left.
Arcadia was especially strong in the paint, outscoring the Nittany Lions 50-30. The Knights also had a 24-16 advantage in points off turnovers and a 16-9 advantage in second-chance scoring.
Arcadia will be back in action Wednesday when the Knights travel to Widener for an 8 p.m. Commonwealth Conference contest.
