GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's volleyball team won each of the final three sets to overcome an 0-2 deficit and register a 3-2 (17-25, 13, 25, 26-24, 25-19, 15-10) non-conference victory over Misericordia University Saturday at Alumni Gymnasium.
The Knights improved to 13-6 with the win, which marks the fifth-highest win total in a season in program history. Arcadia also recorded 13 victories in 1992 (13-5), 2005 (13-15) and 2009 (13-11). The Freedom-Conference leading Cougars fell to 15-14 with the loss.
The Knights struggled to find their rhythm in the first two sets, putting up negative hitting percentages in each of those sets while Misericordia hit .304 in the opening set and .321 in the second.
Arcadia began to settle down in the third set to eventually pull out a two-point win, and then turned the table on the Cougars to cruise to wins in the fourth and fifth sets and earn the win. The Knights used a seven-point run to open an 18-9 advantage in the fourth set and scored nine straight points to open an 11-3 lead in the fifth and deciding set.
Senior outside hitter
Natalie Cadmus had a match-high 21 kills, 12 digs and a match-high five service aces to lead Arcadia to the win. She now ranks third on the single-season kills list with 264, and is just eight away from surpassing Natasha Wetten's 271 kills in 2007 for second.
Junior middle hitter
Christina Karnavas added seven kills to go with three blocks and four digs for the Knights, while sophomore setter
Alexia Bell handed out a team-high 31 assists with 11 digs. Freshman Libero
Sami Evans tallied a team-best 23 digs.
Senior outside hitter Shelby Brochetti had 16 kills and 10 digs to lead the Cougars, while junior outside hitter Meghan Stack added 12 kills with four digs. Sophomore setter Nicole Tagerty registered a match-high 38 assists with 12 digs and three blocks, while junior libero Lexi Giannone notched a match-high 24 digs.
Arcadia will next travel to Stevenson University Wednesday for a 7 p.m. Commonwealth Conference match.
