Box Score GLENSIDE, Pa. – Senior guard/forward
Victoria Mazzeo (Langhorne, Pa.) hit what proved to be the game-winning layup with five seconds left on the clock and the Knights' defense forced a turnover on the final possession of the game to give the Arcadia University women's basketball team a 56-55 win over visiting Hood College Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.
The Knights improved to 10-9 overall and 4-8 in the Commonwealth Conference with their second straight win, while the Blazers fell to 5-14 overall and 2-10 in conference play.
This marked Arcadia's second win over Hood this season, with Mazzeo hitting the game-winner on both occasions. She dropped in the game-winning layup with two seconds to go at Hood January 11.
The Knights led by seven with four minutes to go following a three from sophomore guard
Mary Badeen (Newport, Maine) that gave Arcadia a 53-46 advantage. Hood then went on a 9-1 run to take the lead. Freshman guard Allie Appleby (Bel Air, Md.) tied the contest as she was fouled with 26 seconds to go and hit the free throw that followed to but the Blazers ahead, 55-54.
Arcadia advanced to ball past midcourt and called a timeout to draw up and play, and called on Mazzeo to take the ball once again. She drove right side of the basket and laid the ball in as she drove past Blazers' freshman forward Brittney George (Middletown, Md.).
Hood had one last chance to pull ahead and called for time after advancing the ball with four seconds to go, but sophomore forward Rachel Jabob (Churchville, Pa.) knocked the ball away from freshman guard Danni Medovich (Woddsboro, Md.) as she looked to make a pass to junior forward Rachel Wiley (Frederick, Md.) in the paint to just before time expired.

Valerie DiMuro (Tappan, N.Y.) scored a game-high 21 points while making each of her eight shots from the floor and going 5-for-7 at the line to lead the Knights, She also had seven rebounds in the game.
Badeen scored 14 points with seven boards and three steals coming off the bench, while Mazzeo finished with six points and a team-best eight boards.
Appleby scored 13 points off the bench to lead the Blazers, while Wiley fell one points short of a double-double, scoring nine points with a game-high 11 boards. Sophomore forward Rachel Kessler (Middletown, Md.) and Medovich scored nine points and grabbed four rebounds each.
Arcadia shot a solid 44 percent (21-48) from the field while holding Hood to 30 percent (20-66) shooting from the floor. The Knights held a narrow 13-11 margin in made free throws in the game. Both teams shot 65 percent at the line.
Arcadia will look to record its third straight victory Wednesday when the Knights travel to Elizabethtown College for a 6 p.m. Commonwealth Conference contest. Arcadia will be going for a sweep of the season series after recording a 77-76 win over the Blue Jays January 15 in Glenside.
