Brown’s 27 Points Not Enough as Men’s Basketball Falls at Elizabethtown 81-76

Box Score ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Junior forward Joe Brown (Philadelphia, Pa.) posted his sixth double-double with a game-high 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the field with three threes and 10 rebounds, but it was not enough as the Arcadia University men's basketball team dropped an 81-76 Commonwealth Conference contest at Elizabethtown College Monday night.
 
The Blue Jays improved to 8-13 overall and 5-9 in conference play with the win, while the Knights fell to 7-14 overall and 2-12 in conference play with the loss.
 
Elizabethtown never trailed in the game after opening things up with a 15-2 run. The Blue Jays led by 10 at the half, 40-30, and led by as many as 14 in the second half after freshman forward Jake Sweger's (Willow Street, Pa.) layup made it 62-48 with 9:23 to go in the game.
 
The Knights were down 12 before going on a 9-0 run on a three from sophomore guard John Landro (Cornwall on Hudson, N.Y.) and back-t-back trifecta's from junior guard Torrell Candelaria (Philadelphia, Pa.) cut Arcadia's deficit to 66-63 with 4:27 left.
 
It was once again a three-point game after Candelaria's layup made it 72-69 with 2:47 to go, but that was as close as the Knights would get the rest of the way as the Blue Jays went 7-for-10 at the line in the final minute and a half to close out the win.
 
Junior forward Lee Eckert (Lancaster, Pa.) scored 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field and a 6-for-10 performance at the line while pulling down eight boards to lead Etown, while junior guard Phil Wenger (Lancaster, Pa.) netted 16 points after going 3-for-4 from the floor and 9-for-10 at the stripe He also had five assists and four steals. Senior center Andrew Mantz (Sunbury, Pa.) tallied a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 13 boards.
 
Candelaria finished with 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field with three makes from beyond the arc for the Knights, while senior guard Mike Fitzpatrick (Towson, Md.) chipped in with nine points, four assists and three boards.
 
The game was decided at the free throw line after both teams made 27 field goals and 11 three-pointers. The Blue Jays went 16-of-23 at the line, while Arcadia was 11-for-15.
 
Arcadia will be back in action Wednesday when it travel to Alvernia University for an 8 p.m. Commonwealth Conference contest.
