GLENSIDE, Pa. – Senior forward
Molly Goldstein scored the game-winning goal 3:35 into the extra period as the Arcadia University field hockey team overcame a 3-0 halftime deficit to record a 4-3 victory over the University of Scranton Saturday night at Easton Field.
The Knights improved to 6-2 with the victory, while the Royals, who had allowed just a single goal all season entering today's match, fell to 6-1 with their first loss of the year.
Senior back
Katrina Dull started the comeback with her fourth goal of the season 6:09 into the second half, deflecting a shot from junior forward
Debbie Wolfe inside the left post off a penalty corner, and junior forward
Rachel Longenecker made it a one-goal game when she places shot inside the right post for her third goal of the season.
Arcadia capitalized on another corner to tie the game and 3-3 with eight minutes to go in regulation, as Dull sent a pass in to sophomore forward/midfielder
Erin Misner to start the play, which was finished with a blast from junior back
Taylor Dalisera to force the extra period.
Scranton came out string to begin the extra period, getting off three shots and being awarded on corner, but was unable to capitalize. The Knights were able to break down the right sideline to get into the offensive end of the field, and junior forward
Tess Brzezynski fed the ball to a wide open Goldstein, who was able to settle the ball in the middle of the circle and place her shot into the right of the cage to win the game for Arcadia.
The game was scoreless until the final 10 minutes of the first half. Junior forward/midfielder Krista Osborne started the scoring with her third goal of the season in the 28th-minute, and senior midfielder Alyssa Fania scored her team-leading ninth and 10th goals of the season in a span of exactly two minutes to put Scranton ahead 3-0 at the break.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Mia De Plato did not face a shot on goal after entering the game in the second half to record the win in goal for the Knights, improving her record to 6-2 for the season.
Senior goalkeeper Krista Mundy allowed three goals with three saves through the first 66:39 before being replaced by freshman goalkeeper Meghan Lee, who took the loss for Scranton after giving up one goal in the final seven minutes of the game.
Arcadia was outshot 14-2 in the first half before out shooting the Royals 13-1 in the second. Scranton took all five corners in the first and overtime, while the Knights had a 6-1 advantage in corners in the second half.
