Women’s basketball team pulls away in second half for 73-53 win over Hood

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's basketball team recorded a 73-53 Commonwealth Conference victory over visiting Hood College Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium to even its overall record at 9-9 for the season while improving to 5-4 in conference play. The Blazers fell to 4-14 overall and 2-7 in conference play with the loss.
 
Arcadia controlled the play and held the lead for all but a few seconds in the first half, going up by as many as 14 after junior guard Maureen Fiocca knocked down a jumper to make it 35-21 with 2:49 left in the first period.  The Knights settled for a nine-point lead at the break, 39-30, before blowing the game open in the second half, opening the new period with a 10-1 run to open a 49-31 advantage and led by as many as 23 after a made free throw by senior guard/forward Megan Fox made it 70-47 in the closing minutes of the game.
 
Junior forward Addy Crenny registered her conference-leading 13th double-double of the season with game-high totals of 18 points and 13 rebounds, while fellow junior forward Valerie DiMuro netted 17 points with four rebounds and a game-high six blocked shots. Fiocca also finished in double figures with 12 points to go with four rebounds and three assists, while Fox finished with nine points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. Hassinger totaled eight points with five boards and five assists.
 
Senior forward Rachel Wiley scored 13 points with 10 boards to lead the Blazers, while junior guard Briana Lee was the team's next-highest scorer with seven points off the bench.
 
Arcadia shot 42 percent (26-62) from the field and 76 percent (20-26) from the line, while Hood shot just 32 percent (20-62) from the field and 55 percent (11-20) from the line.
 
The Knights will look to make it three wins in a row Wednesday when they travel to Alvernia University for a 6 p.m. Commonwealth Conference contest.
