Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lebanon Valley pulls away late to edge Arcadia 82-76 to open New Year

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The game was tied at 72 with just over a minute to go before host Lebanon Valley College closed the contest with a 10-4 burst to record an 82-76 Commonwealth Conference win over the Arcadia University men's basketball team Saturday.

Senior guard Travis Salutus stepped to the line with the Knights (6-5, 2-2 CC) trailing by one and hit one of two free throws to tie the game at 72 with 1:19 remaining in the game. The Dutchmen (9-4, 3-1 CC) then took the lead for good on junior guard/forward Kyler Burke's layup on the ensuing trip down the floor and senior guard Kevin Agnew made it a four-point game when he converted a layup with 30 seconds to go.

Saltus then brought Arcadia back within two with a pair of made free throws and converted a layup with 15 seconds on the clock to make the Knights' deficit 78-76, but that proved to be Arcadia's last points of the game. Agnew went 4 for 4 at the line to close out the game, giving LVC the six-point win.

Saltus scored a team-best 23 points on 8 of 14 shooting from the field and a 6 for 9 showing at the line while grabbing six rebounds to lead Arcadia, while freshman guard Sean Mayberry poured in 20 points coming off the bench on 7 of 10 shooting from the floor and a 5 for 6 performance at the line. Senior forward Joe Brown had a well-rounded game, scoring 13 points with eight rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Agnew scored a game-high 31 points to lead the Dutchmen, going 10 of 19 from the floor and 9 of 10 at the line while also totaling six assists, five rebounds and three steals. Sophomore guard Zach Mrozek scored 13 points with five rebounds and five assists for Lebanon Valley, while Burke finished with 13 points and six boards.

The Dutchmen looked as if they may run away with the game after outscoring the Knights 22-9 over the opening nine minutes of the game, but Arcadia responded with a 17-4 surge that was capped by a three from Saltus to tie the game at 26 with 5:20 left in the opening frame. Neither team led by more than six the rest of the way.

The lead changed hands several times in the second half, which saw Arcadia lead by as many as four following two made free throws from Mayberry to make is 54-50 midway through the frame. The Knights last led 66-65 with 3:42 remaining following a made free throw from junior forward Alex Cohen, which was his only point of the game. He also finished with six rebounds.

Arcadia will look to get back in the win column Monday at Misericordia University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
