GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's basketball team closed out a three game home stand Wednesday night with a 59-50 win over Bryn Athyn. Arcadia was led by
Addy Crenny's fifth double-double of the season with 14 points and 16 boards.
Morgan Wensley added nine points off the pine on 4 of 6 shooting. The win moves the Knights to 4-4 on the season while the Lions fall to 1-2.
The game was tied for just 15 seconds, the opening 15 seconds, as Crenny laid in the first two points of the contest on the first possession and the Knights would not look back. In fact, the Scarlet and Grey scored the first eight points of the contest in just over a minute and a half. All eight points came in the paint as
Valerie DiMuro sandwiched a fast break lay-in from
Imani Alston with a pair of layups of her own. The Lions got on the board exactly two minutes in on a layup from Robin McClinek before the Knights scored nine straight powered by six more points in the paint along with a three pointer from
Irelynn Donovan, Arcadia lead 17-2 following that spurt with five and half to go in the opening quarter. Bryn Athyn tried to crawl back in with a quick six point spurt, but the Knights had other ideas, ending the quarter with six straight capped by a
Camille Menns layup with two ticks left. Arcadia led 24-10 after the opening 10 minutes.
Wensley controlled the second quarter tallying all nine of her points in a frame in which Arcadia scored 14 points. The senior laid in the Knights first points with 6:13 to go in the half. Less than a minute later she started an 8-0 Knight run with a three pointer; she capped the run with a layup to bring the score to 34-16 in favor of the hosts. She then ended the half's scoring with a jumper to send the game to a 38-17 halftime.
Wensley's nine points on 4 of 5 shooting led all scorers. Crenny dominated the glass with eight rebounds in the half. Offensively, the Knights shot 48.5% from the field. Defensively, the Scarlet and Grey held the Lions to just 23.1% shooting from the field, including 0-7 from distance.
The second half would not be so easy on the Knights, however they would not allow the Lions to get closer than seven. The Lions opened the half on a 7-2 run before the Scarlet and Grey moved back to a 20 point advantage with a pair of free throws from Crenny and a layup from Donovan. Taylor Davis keyed a seven point spurt with back-to-back jumpers before that was broken up by a three-point play from Donovan. After the teams exchanged layups, the Lions tallied the final seven points of the frame to send the game to the fourth with the score 49-40 in favor the Knights.
Each team notched 10 points over the final 10 minutes.
Olivia Roseman opened the quarter's scoring with a tree just over a minute and a half in. Clark would score five straight for the Lions to pull them with eight at 53-45, however they could not complete the comeback as the teams traded baskets the rest of the way. Crenny capped the scoring with a jumper with 36 seconds left for the 59-50 final.
Crenny led the Knights with eight second half points, while being supported by Donovan and Roseman with five points each. Crenny pulled in eight more rebounds to lead all players in that category.
Crenny's 14 points tied for a game-high with Bryn Athyn's Clark. DiMuro helped control the paint play with eight points and 11 rebounds. The Knights were very advantageous when it came to the 26 turnovers from the Lions, as the Scarlet and Grey scored 29 points following a turnover.
The Knights finish off the fall semester at Lycoming on Saturday.
