SCRANTON, Pa. – Senior
Haylee Molloy became just the second player in program history to score 200 career goals as the Arcadia University women's lacrosse team opened the 2015 season with a 16-7 non-conference victory at Marywood University Saturday. It was the first game of the year for both teams.
Molloy scored four goals and assisted on two others in the win, giving her 202 goals and 252 points for her collegiate career. She is just three points shy of becoming Arcadia's career scoring leader, and is 27 goals away from becoming the program's all-time leader in that category. Traci Conrad currently holds both the career goals and scoring marks, totaling 228 goals and 254 points from 1994-97.
Freshman Erin Healy opened the scoring five and a half minutes in to give the Pacers an early 1-0 lead before a four-goal run gave the Knights the lead for good. Junior
Adeline Bellesheim scored each of Arcadia's first three goals, tying the game just 36 seconds after Healy's goal and then put Arcadia ahead 11 minutes into the opening half. Sophomore
Erin Misner capped the run with an unassisted tally with 12:19 remaining in the first half.
Freshman
Nicole Hutson scored the first two goals of her collegiate career to close out the first half, giving the Knights an 8-3 lead at the break, while Molloy scored back-to-back goals to open the second, giving Arcadia a commanding 10-3 lead. Molloy scored two more times in a span of 28 seconds in the closing minutes for the 16-7 final.
Bellesheim finished the game with three goals and three assists, while Hutson closed out the first game of her collegiate career with three goals and one assist. Junior
Dawn Faranetta tallied two goals and assisted on three others, while senior
Jaclyn Feffer and Misner added two goals each.
Freshman Sam Bussinelli scored three goals with one assist to lead Marywood, while junior Stacy Griffing, Healy and junior Mary Ninivaggi scored one goal each.
Junior
Jordyn Dunacusky totaled nine saves while allowing four goals in 44:31 to record her first win of the season for the Knights, while freshman
Liz Stierle allowed three goals with one save in the final 15:29 of the contest.
Arcadia outshot the Pacers 32-21 and had a 16-7 advantage on draw controls, while Marywood had a 25-19 edge in ground balls.
The Knights will return to action Thursday when they host a 4 p.m. non-conference match against Immaculata University at Easton Field.
