ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Arcadia University women's lacrosse team lost its first game of the 2015 season Wednesday, dropping a 19-13 non-conference decision at Muhlenberg College. The Mules improved to 4-0 on the season, while the Knights fell to 4-1.
Muhlenberg took the lead for good with a five-goal run midway through the first half that was capped by _ Jordy Bonvini's first goal of the game with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. That run saw a pair of goals scored by senior Stephanie Umbach and junior Casey Armstrong.
Arcadia responded with a three-goal run to close the half down 8-5 following goals from sophomore
Erin Misner, junior Dawn Faranetta and senior
Haylee Molloy. The Knights were able to pull within two in the early stages of the first half, first following Faranetta's tally that made it 10-8 and the after junior
Jessica Santoli's goal that made it 11-9 13:36 into the second half, but that was as close as they'd get the rest of the way.
Senior Kayleigh Thies started another five-goal surge for the Mules that gave them a 16-9 lead with 9:30 to go in the game. Sophomore Nora Fisher capped that run with an unassisted goal, her first of the game.
Faranetta scored a team-leading six goals in the game while going 3 for 4 on free position attempts, while junior
Adeline Bellesheim added four goals with one assist. Santoli finished the game with one goal and a game-high three assists.
Armstrong finished with game-high totals of six goals and three assists for nine points to lead Muhlenberg, while Theis finished with five goals and one assist. Fisher and Umbach totaled three goals each.
Junior Kiersten Mulvey totaled just six saves while earning the decision in goal for the Mules, while junior
Jordyn Dunacusky totaled 11 stops in taking the loss for the Knights.
Muhlenberg outshot Arcadia 35-26 with a 30-19 advantage in shots on goal, and picked up 23 of 35 draw controls. The Mules also had the edge in ground balls, 27-20.
The Knights will look to bounce back Thursday when they host a 4 p.m. non-conference game against Delaware Valley University at Easton Field.
