WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's tennis team recorded a 5-3 Freedom Conference victory at King's College (Pa.) Saturday to improve its overall record to 2-4 on the season. The Monarchs fell to 3-6 with the loss. It was the conference-opener for both teams.

The Knights sept the double portion of the match to take a commanding 3-0 lead into singles action. Senior Kaila Gaughan and Viola Sawyer were 8-3 winners over junior Madeline Griffin and freshman Julia Keppel at No. 1, while junior Allyson Naiken and freshman Kayla Haberbosch were 9-7 winners over juniors Lauren DeReinzi and Maggie Walsh at No. 2. Sophomore Jennifer Khawam and freshman Sarah Hanley rounded out doubles play with a 9-7 over seniors Vanessa Wagner and Miranda Warunek at No. 3.

Gaughan went on to pull out a three-set victory at No. 3 singles over DeReinzi, while Haberbosch was a straight-set winner over Walsh at No. 4 singles. Hanley led Warunek 4-3 in the third set at No. 6 singles, which went unfinished due to the cold weather conditions once the match was decided.

The wins for both Haberbosch and Hanley were the first of their collegiate careers.

Arcadia will be back in action Thursday when it hosts a Freedom Conference match against FDU-Florham at Weiss Courts.
