UNION, N.J. – The Arcadia University women's lacrosse team closed the game with four unanswered goals as it overcame a 6-2 halftime deficit to record a 9-7 overtime victory at Kean University Saturday in a non-conference contest. The Knights improved to 3-0 on the season, while the Cougars fell to 0-1.
Arcadia scored twice in the final three and a half minutes of regulation to force the extra period. Freshman
Allegra Benites scored with 3:28 remaining in the second half and sophomore
Erin Misner tied the game at 7-7 two minutes later. Senior
Haylee Molloy scored the only two goals of the extra frame to give the Knights the come-from-behind win, putting Arcadia ahead 0:46 into overtime and adding an insurance marker a minute later off a feed from junior
Dawn Faranetta.
The game was tied at 2-2 following Misner's first goal of the game midway through the first half before Kean used a four-goal run to close the opening stanza. Sophomore Taylor Hynes started the run with 13:26 left in the first half and junior Jordan Blanda capped is off with 6:27 left in the period.
Arcadia scored three straight to goals over the first 5:55 of the second half, pulling back within one on goals from Molloy, Misner and Faranetta. Junior Samantha Gnapp snapped that surge with 12:23 on the clock, putting the Cougars up 7-5. That proved to be their final goal of the game.
Misner totaled a game-high four points with three goals and one assist while tallying four draw controls and four ground balls, while Molloy also finished with three goals and picked up two ground balls. Junior
Adeline Bellesheim and Faranetta finished with one goal and one assist each.
Junior
Jordyn Dunacusky totaled 12 saves to improve to 3-0 in goal this season. Senior
Jaclyn Feffer recorded four caused turnovers and four ground balls, while classmate
Dana Roessler also had four ground balls while causing two turnovers.
Freshman Emily Stasuk was the only Kean player to score twice in the game, while Blanda totaled one goal and two assists. Freshman Nikki Apostolpoulos had 10 stops while taking the loss in net.
The Knights had a 27-21 advantage in shots, including a 12-9 margin in the second half and a 4-0 edge in overtime, and had a 15-9 advantage on draw controls. Ground balls favored Kean 27-19.
Arcadia will next host a non-conference contest against Monday against Neumann University that starts at 4 p.m. at Easton Field.
