Softball Takes Game-One 4-1, Falls in Game-Two 3-0 against Penn State Abington

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader against Penn State Abington Tuesday night at Blankley Field, which also featured a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the newly installed lights at the field.

The Knights record moved to 11-15 for the season, while the Nittany Lions' record now stands at 11-6-1 on the year.

Arcadia jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first in game-one as junior Sarah Gunia drove a one-out double to left the just missed clearing the fence and then scored on an error to put the Knights out in front for good in the game. That lead grew to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth as freshman Tori Zaccaria drove in a pair of runs with her double to the gap in left center, and Gunia drove in sophomore Samantha Quigley with her second double of the game to straight away center field in the fifth.

Junior Erin Wilson carried a three-hit shutout into the top of the seventh, but an early error proved to be costly as freshman Greta Sheridan later delivered an RBI-single through the right side of the infield to plate Drogalis with Abington's only run of the game. Wilson (5-7) then got junior Nicole Battaglio to ground out before fanning junior Ashley Quenzer for her ninth strikeout to end the game.

Game-two ended up being a different story, as sophomore Emily Wrenn tossed a three-hit shutout to salvage a split for the Nittany Lions as Arcadia committed five errors in the game, rendering two of the three runs scored by Abington unearned.

Freshman Whitney DeLangol singled through the left side before a sacrifice bunt moved her to second and an error allowed her to reach third before she crossed the plate on Battaglio's ground out to short. Sophomore Breanna Lineman went on to drive in Sheridan with an infield single in the top of the third, and Sheridan scored again in the sixth on an error after taking third on a wild pitch.

Arcadia will be back in action Thursday when it travels to Haverford College for a non-conference twin bill.
