GLENSIDE, Pa. – The fourth-seeded Arcadia University men's tennis team will travel to top-seeded and defending champion Wilkes University Tuesday for a Freedom Conference Championship Tournament semifinal match Tuesday that gets underway at 3:30 p.m.
ABOUT ARCADIA: The Knights posted an overall record of 7-5 during the regular season, which included a 3-3 mark in Freedom Conference play. Sophomore
Chuck Poklikuha is 9-4 in singles action this season, splitting time between fourth and fifth singles, while classmate
Wesley Wei has gone 9-5 while primarily filling the No. 3 singles spot. Junior
Alex Colton is 7-7 in single this season at No. 2 singles, while fellow junior
Vincent Voulo has gone 6-7 at No. 1. Junior
Simon Mohr is 5-4 competing at sixth-singles, while sophomore
Ricardo Margolles is 3-3 at No. 5 singles. The No. 2 doubles tandem of Colton and Poklikuha are 6-3 this season, while the third-doubles team of Margolles and Wei are 5-2.
ARCADIA IN THE CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT: The Knights are making their second Freedom Conference Championship Tournament appearance in three years and their first under head coach
Shawn Hyden. Arcadia was the No. 4 seed back in 2013 and was shut out by top-seeded and eventual champion Wilkes. Arcadia is 0-3 all-time in conference tournament play since joining the Middle Atlantic Conferences in 2007-08. The Knights were seeded fourth on the Commonwealth Conference side in 2009, and dropped a 5-0 decision to top-seeded Elizabethtown College.
ABOUT WILKES: The Colonels are 17-2 on the season and went a perfect 6-0 in Freedom Conference play to once again earn the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament. Wilkes enters the 2015 championship in search of its eight consecutive conference title. The Colonels have a deep lineup, with 11 players totaling at least 10 wins in singles play. Brian Murray leads the Colonels with a 24-2 singles record this season, while Adam Lefkandinos is 17-3. Troy Haas is close behind at 17-4 in singles action, while Michael Krantz is 16-4. Steven Wilson has gone 14-6 in 2014-15 in singles play, while Max Apello and Dominic Parfianowicz have posted respective marks of 13-5 and 11-6.
LAST MEETING: Wilkes swept Arcadia 9-0 back on April 18 at Weiss Courts.
UP NEXT: The winner of today's match will face the winner of the other semifinal between second-seeded King's College and third-seeded FDU-Florham Saturday at the highest remaining seed.
