Women's Basketball Moves to 2-2 in Conference Play with 63-49 Win Over Hood

GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Arcadia University women's basketball team moved to .500 in conference play Saturday afternoon with a 63-49 win over Hood in Alumni Gymnasium. Freshman Olivia Roseman powered the Knights offense with a game-high 16 points, while senior Addy Crenny posted her seventh double-double of the season with 15 points and 17 rebounds. The win moves Arcadia to 7-4 on the season, while the Blazers fall to 4-8 with an 0-4 conference record. 
 
The Knights controlled play early holding the Blazers without a field goal in the first quarter. Free throw shooting helped the Knights to an early 4-0 Crenny and classmate Dominique Hassinger each converted a pair. Fellow senior Valerie DiMuro recorded the first field goal of the contest with a jumper at the 8:22 mark of the first quarter. The Knights jumped out to a 13-0 lead capped by an Roseman three with 2:29 to go in the opening frame before Hood recorded its only points of the period on three free throws.  The Knights held a 17-3 lead after one.
 
Hood tried to bounce back in the second quarter scoring the quarters first four points but the Scarlet and Grey would have a quick answer as Roseman deposited another three before Hassinger knocked down a jumper to put the Knights up 22-7 with 4:49 to go until the break. Roseman extended the Knights lead to 31-13 with a three with 1:08 left until the half; that score would stand at the break.
 
Leading all scorers with 11 first half points, Roseman shot 4 of 7 from the field including 3 of 4 from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes. Crenny controlled the glass grabbing a half-best 11 rebounds. The Knights shot 39.3% from the field including 50% from distance. Allie Appleby led Hood with seven points as the team shot just 14.3% from the field.
 
The second half wouldn't be as easy for the Knights, however they were up to the task.  Back-to-back layups from Imani Alston put Arcadia up by a game-high 21 with a 36-15 score just over two minutes into the third quarter. DiMuro broke up a 5-0 spurt by Hood before Roseman highlighted a 5-0 run for the Knights with a three-point play to put the Scarlet and Grey back up 21 at 43-22 with 5:40 to go in the third quarter. Alexis Andrukat highlighted a 7-0 run that pulled the Blazers within 11 before Camille Menns, Roseman, Crenny and Alston combined for an 8-0 spurt to finish the third quarter and start the fourth. Arcadia led 50-13 after the third.
 
Hood came as close as 11 in the fourth quarter before Alston knocked down a jumper and Hassinger converted a pair of free throws for a 60-45 lead with 37 seconds left.
 
Alston led the Knights with eight second half points on 4 of 7 shooting, while Crenny tied for the half-lead with seven rebounds.
 
Arcadia shot 37.9% from the field in the game, including 3 of 7 from distance. Alston joined Roseman and Crenny in double figures with 10 points while handing out five helpers and recording four steals.
 
Hood was led by Appleby with 23 points on 5 of 8 shooting. As a team, the Blazers shot 33.9% on the heels of a 53.6% performance in the second half.
 
The Knights are back in action on Wednesday night when they host DeSales in a 6 p.m. contest.
