Field Hockey Edged by Widener in Regular Season Finale, 2-1

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University field hockey team closed the 2016 regular season with a 2-1 MAC Commonwealth setback to visiting Widener University on a rainy Thursday night at Easton Field. The Pride improved to 8-8 overall and 3-4 in conference play with the win, while the Knights fell to 6-13 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights struck first as sophomore Gabby Sedares lifted the ball over the defense and into the cage off a penalty corner insert from freshman Isabelle Houser 13:23 into the contest. It was Sedares' eighth goal of the season, while the assist was the fourth of the year for Houser. Sam Scoma tied the match when she scored off a rebound seven minutes later, and then gave Widener the lead in the 46th-minute for the 2-1 final. Arcadia pressed hard to tie the game after falling behind, but was unable to get the equalizer.

IN GOAL: Mikayla Ninos totaled five saves to earn the win in goal for the Pride, who were helped by a Sarah Quintus defensive save in both halves. Senior Brittany Hodson also totaled five saves in taking the loss for the Knights.
