Men’s Basketball Falls Short Against Dickinson 81-74

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Arcadia University men's basketball team opened the Hyatt Place Tipoff Tournament at Mary Washington with an 81-74 setback to Dickinson. The loss drops the Knights to 0-2 on the season, while the Red Devils move to 1-0.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights took their only lead of the game at 4-3 on the heels of a pair sophomore Evan Slone free throws just under three minutes in. Dickinson opened a lead as big as 13 in the opening 20 minutes, before taking a 43-32 lead to halftime. A second half comeback attempt saw Arcadia come within two as a 9-2 run capped by a layup from junior Kyle Reilly brought the score to 62-60 with 8:19 to play.  After the Red Devils push their lead back to six with 5:22 remaining, the teams went back-and-forth the rest of the way.
 
ARCADIA LEADERS: Slone led Arcadia with 19 points on 8-13 shooting from the field. Reilly dropped 17 while also leading the team with nine rebounds and three steals. Sophomore Phil Pierfy also registered double-figures with 11 points on 4-9 shooting.
 
DICKINSON LEADERS: Elijah Wright matched Slone's 19 points while going 7-10 from the field, including 2-2 from distance. Jule Brown chipped in with 18 points on 6-8 shooting, while Moses Romocki added 10 points. Justus Melton led the way with five boards, while tying Wright for the team-lead in steals with three.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Arcadia shot 43.8% (28-64) from the floor while converting 38.5% (5-13) from beyond the arc and 61.9% (13-21) from the free throw line. The Red Devils went 53.7% (29-54) from the floor including 50% (9-18) from three and 58.3% (14-24) from the charity stripe. The Knights out-rebounded Dickinson 41-30 while outscoring them 22-5 in second chance points and 41-20 off the bench.
