No. 3 Field Hockey Travels to No. 2 Alvernia for MAC Commonwealth Semifinal

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The third seeded Arcadia University field hockey team will travel to second-seeded Alvernia University Wednesday, November 2, for a MAC Commonwealth semifinal match that gets underway at 5 p.m. in Reading.
 
TICKETS: Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, $2 for children and students with a valid University ID. Children under six are admitted free of charge.

ABOUT ARCADIA: The Knights went 6-5 during the second half of the season follow an 0-8 start to the year, and earned the third seed with a 4-3 conference record. Senior Allie Hines leads the team in scoring with career-high totals of 10 goals and four assists for 24 points, and is closely followed by sophomore Gabby Sedares (8 goals, 5 assists) and junior Lindsay Tobey (7 goals, 5 assists). Freshman Sydney Cyr has two goals and a team-best six assists since making her collegiate debut against the Crusaders. Senior Brittany Hodson has started 11 of her 14 games, posting a 2.67 goals against average and .759 save percentage with 88 stops, 17 of which were in the Knights' 5-0 shutout victory over Albright that clinched the postseason berth. Anne Becker is 5-2 in her 12 games played, with a 2.50 goals against average and .690 save percentage.
 
ABOUT ALVERNIA: The Crusaders went 18-1 during the regular season, with their lone loss coming to top-seeded Messiah, and locked up the second seed with a 6-1 conference record. Alvernia also enters the match ranked No. 16 in the nation by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. Margaret Wentzel leads the team in scoring with 17 goals and 21 assists for 55 points, while Andrea Wysocki is second with 15 goals and six assists for 36 points. Alexis Krall and Malorie McCoy additionally have double-digit goal totals of 13 and 10, respectively. Rebecca Brosious is 17-1 in goal with a 1.15 goals against average and a .806 save percentage with 83 stops for the year.
 
LAST MEETING: Alvernia was a 4-0 winner over Arcadia back on September 24 in Reading, a game in which the Crusaders outshot the Knights 20-3. Krall scored the game-winner 10:21 into the match, and setup one of McCoy's two goals in the game. Wysocki also scored for Alvernia.
 
UP NEXT: The winner of today's game will face the winner of the other MAC Commonwealth semifinal between No. 1 Messiah and No. 4 Lebanon Valley. The highest remaining seed will host the championship match Saturday at a time to be determined.
 
PLAYOFF HISTORY: The Knights are making their fourth MAC Commonwealth postseason appearance in five years. Arcadia's last appearance was as the No. 1 seed in 2014, which saw the Knights upset in the semifinals by No. 4 Messiah. Arcadia has yet to advance past the semifinal round, and is looking for its first conference tournament win since recording a 6-2 first round win over Stevenson in 2012.
