FREDERICK, Md. – The Arcadia University baseball team recorded a 6-3 MAC Commonwealth victory at Hood College Friday, it was the conference-opener for both teams. The Knights improved to 8-5-1 overall, while the Blazers fell to 5-7.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights trailed 3-1 after five innings, and plated four runs in the top of the seventh to take control of the game. A pair of runs scored after senior
Nick Todero reached on an error to tie the game at 3-3, and classmate
Michael Nessel put Arcadia ahead for good with his two-run blast that capped the scoring in the inning. Junior
Jordan Draude added a solo homer in the eighth for the 6-3 final.
ON THE HILL: F
reshman Zach Manasek improved to 2-0 after scattering three hits with three strikeouts over the final 2.1 innings of the game. Sophomore
Mike Boulanger got the start for Arcadia, allowing three runs in eight hits with seven strikeouts over 4.1 innings, while
Senior Joseph Warren also scattered three hits with three Ks over 2.1 innings of relief. Travis Schweizer took the loss for Hood after giving up five runs on seven hits over 6.2 innings of work.
ARCADIA AT-BAT: Nessel was 1 for 5 with a homer and three RBI, while Draude finished the day 3 for 4 with a homer. Freshman
Bryan Gillen was 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored.
HOOD AT-BAT: Cam Esposito was 3 for 5 with a pair of runs scored, while Quinn Fulton was 3 for 5 with an RBI. Chris Shriver went 2 for 5 and stole two bags.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Arcadia won the game despite being out-hit 14-9 in the game. Each of Hoods 14 hits was a single, while the Blazers' five errors eventually led to five unearned runs for the Knights. Arcadia's lone earned run was on Draude's third homer of the season.
