GLENSIDE, Pa. – After falling behind 8-3 in the first half, the Arcadia University women's lacrosse team used a spurt of energy in the second half to score four goals but ultimately fell 13-7 to Kean University at Easton Field on Saturday. The Knights move to 3-2 on the season, while the Cougars stay undefeated at 5-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Kean scored three times in the opening two minutes of the game to gain momentum. The Knights pulled within two following senior
Adeline Bellesheim's first goal of the day at the 18:51 mark in the opening frame, however Kean would take an 8-3 lead to halftime. After allowing Kean to score four goals in the opening 12 minutes of the second half, sophomore
Allegra Benites took a draw control straight to the net and was able to give the Knights their first score since the 11:59 mark in the first half. Bellesheim and sophomore
Nicole Hutson also added goals to bring the score to 12-6 in favor of Kean. A Cougars' goal with 14:53 left to go would put the differential back to seven, before senior
Erin Misner finished the scoring with a goal with 8:38 remaining.
LEADING ARCADIA: Bellesheim led the Knights with two goals and one assist on the day. Benites finished the day with one goal, a game-high two assists, two draw controls and one caused turnover. Sophomore
Marie Brockman led the team with three draw controls, while also recording one goal.
LEADING KEAN: Sam Gnapp led the Cougars with four goals off of seven shots. Jordan Blanda followed with three goals, one assists, three caused turnovers and a team-high nine draw controls. Emily Stasuk and Morgan Graham each had two goals.
IN GOAL: Senior
Jordyn Dunacusky made nine saves while also picking up one ground ball on the day. Kean's Nikki Apostolopoulos made seven saves to remain perfect on the season.
BY THE NUMBERS: Kean out-shout Arcadia 30-19 in the game, with the Knights taking a 13-12 advantage in the second half. The Cougars were nearly perfect on clears, going 11-12 for the game and 6-6 in the second period. Kean also outnumbered Arcadia in ground balls (13-5) and draw controls (15-7).
