GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Arcadia University men's tennis team started off MAC Commonwealth play win a 8-1 win over Alvernia on Saturday at Weiss Courts. The Knights move to 5-7 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while the Crusaders fall to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
In doubles, Arcadia picked up a win at the second position when
Wesley Wei and
Vincent Voulo defeated Colin MacCloskey and Kyle Clark, 8-4. The Knights also took a victory at the number three spot after
Chuck Poklikuha and
Alex Colton took down Antonio Gaetani and Todd Unger, 8-2. Alvernia's lone point came when Luke Hangan and Reid Hoff defeated
Ishan Kulkarni and
John Zinzer, 8-6 at the first positon.
In singles play, the Knights picked up wins at all six flights of competition. Kulkarni was able to defeat Hangan 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 at the first spot, while Colton took down MacCloskey 6-1, 6-0 at the number two position. Voulo and Jacob Conapitski would battle into three sets at the third flight, with Voulo taking the 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 victory. Wei defeated Hoff at the fourth position, 6-0, 6-4, while Poklikuha picked up a 7-5 win against Kyle Clark before the set was retired.
Darren Stochmal picked up the final point for the Knights with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Gaetani at the sixth flight.
Arcadia will be back in action when they travel to Williamsport to take on Lycoming College on April 9 at 1:00 p.m.
