Second Half Surge Sinks Women’s Lacrosse in 18-7 Setback to Lycoming

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's lacrosse team suffered an 18-7 setback to Lycoming in the team's conference opener Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Scarlet and Grey to 4-4 on the season and 0-1 in conference play, while the Warriors move to 9-0 and go to 1-0 in conference play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: The first half saw back-and-forth action with Lycoming scoring two quick goals in the game's first five minutes, only to have the Knights retaliate with goals from sophomores Allegra Benites and Marie Brockman. The teams went goal for goal the rest of the half, with Benites' second goal of the day giving the Scarlet and Grey its only lead of the day at 5-4. The visitors went on to outscore the Knights 13-2 in the second half to take home the win.
 
ARCADIA LEADERS: Benites and senior Adeline Bellesheim led the way with two goals each, while Brockman, junior Erin Misner and seniors Jessica Santoli and Dawn Faranetta each met twine once. Faranetta led the team with two assists.
 
LYCOMING LEADERS: The Warriors were led by six-goal performances by Meghenn Jackson and Jordan Lazarich, while Leanne Shaw netted three goals and handed out a team-high three assists.
 
IN GOAL: Senior Jordyn Dunacusky made eight saves as she took the loss, falling to 4-4. Nicole Gerling made nine saves for Lycoming for the win.
 
UP NEXT: The Knights continue conference play on Wednesday, when they travel to Albright for a 4 p.m. contest.
