GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Arcadia University women's lacrosse team fell 18-5 in a MAC Commonwealth matchup at Messiah College Saturday. The Falcons, who are ranked 17th in this week's IWLCA Coaches' Poll, moved to 10-5 overall and 6-0 in conference play, while the Knights fell to 4-10 on the season and 0-6 in conference games.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Messiah opened the game on a six-goal run, with three goals from Stephanie Athens, before Arcadia sophomores Allegra Benites and Nicole Hutson scored back-to-back goals to put the Knights on the board. Athens and Kendra Herbenar would add two more goals for the Falcons to give them an 8-2 lead, but the Knights came back to close the gap to 8-4 with another set of consecutive goals from Benites and Hutson. The Falcons' Courtney Wagner scored on a free position shot with two seconds left in the first half to give Messiah a 9-4 lead. The Falcons went on to outscore the Knights 9-1 in the second half to close out the victory.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Hutson finished the day with two goals, three draw controls and two ground balls, while Benites scored twice with one draw control and one ground ball; senior Dawn Farnetta added the other goal for Arcadia, the 193rd of her collegiate career. Sophomore Marie Brockman had a team-high five draw controls and three draw ground balls, while junior Erin Misner scooped a team-high ground balls.
MESSIAH LEADERS: Athens led all scorers with five goals, while Herbenar added three goals, one assist and a team-high three draw controls. Wagner found the back of the net three times, while Audrey Liberati scored twice. Jenna Stover scored once and had a team-high two assists on the day.
IN GOAL: Messiah's Alexa Dipeso moved to 10-3 on the season after making six saves and allowing four goals in 47:35 minutes, while Ellery Klineyoung finished the game out with one goal against and two saves. Arcadia senior Jordyn Dunacusky fell to 4-9 after making 11 saves and allowing all 18 goals.
