Baseball Opens Conference Series against Albright with 6-2 Victory

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Arcadia University baseball team took the opening game of its three-game MAC Commonwealth series with Albright by a final count of 6-2 Friday afternoon at Erny Field. The Knights improved to 16-9-1 overall and 7-3 in MAC Commonwealth play with the win, while the Lions fell to 3-17 overall and 0-10 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights staked themselves to an early 1-0 advantage. Freshman Bryan Gillen walked to lead off the frame and scored from first on senior Nick Todero's double center field. That lead grew to 3-0 in the third as junior Justin Chasmar drove a double to gap in left center to score Todero, and then crossed the plate senior Michael Nessel's triple to right. Nessel drove in another run with a sac fly in the fifth to send junior Jordan Draude home, and drove in his third run of the day with a double to right center field in the seventh that scored Chasmar. Todero also scored in the seventh, getting in under the tag on a double-steal.

Albright scored both of its runs in the top of the sixth with the help of a couple errors. Brandon Triantos reached on an error and later scored on Jeff Yordy's infield single to get the Lions on the board. Yordy later scored from second after Julian Cimino reached on an error.

ON THE HILL: Senior Jason Goldberg improved to 2-3 after yielding two unearned run on three hits while striking out six batters over his six innings of work. Junior Christopher Keesser didn't allow a hit in the seventh, while sophomore Ryan Ulrich fanned two batters over the final two innings to close out the win for Arcadia. Trevor Mastria fell to 1-3 with the loss for Albright after giving up five runs on eight hits with six strikeouts in hit 6.1 innings of work.
