GLENSIDE, Pa. – The third-seeded Arcadia University men's tennis team is set to take on top-seeded Messiah in its first ever MAC Commonwealth Championship Match appearance. The match is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. on Criste Courts at Messiah.
TICKETING INFORMATION: Because Messiah is hosting multiple MAC Commonwealth Championship events, all spectators will be charged admission to the Starry Athletic complex. Prices are as follows: adults $5 and students $2.
ABOUT ARCADIA: The third-seeded Knights ousted second-seeded Stevenson on Wednesday night by a score of 5-2 to advance to the title match. With Stevenson leading 2-1 following doubles play; the match was moved indoors during singles action where the Scarlet and Grey took all four completed singles flights. Senior
Darren Stochmal has won 11 straight singles matches, entering the finals with an 18-5 record. Junior
Chuck Poklikuha enters the match at 16-6, while MAC Commonwealth Rookie of the Year
Ishan Kulkarni is 9-8 at first singles. Senior
Alex Colton took a three set win against Stevenson to move to 10-12 in singles play on the year, while pairing with Poklikuha for a 17-3 record in doubles play.
ARCADIA IN THE CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT: This marks the third conference playoff appearance in four years for the men's tennis program. As a member of the MAC Freedom, the team qualified for the conference tournament in 2013 and 2015; prior to that the Knights were seeded fourth in the 2009 MAC Commonwealth Championship. After clinching the highest conference postseason seed in program history, the Knights picked up their first ever Middle Atlantic Conference postseason win over Stevenson.
ABOUT MESSIAH: The first-seeded Falcons dropped fourth-seeded Lebanon Valley 5-0 to advance to the finals, after going undefeated in conference play during the regular season. Austin Warren leads the team with a 15-5 singles record, playing primarily in the fifth flight. Connor Greybeal's 17-7 mark comes mostly at second singles, as Devin Esch holds an 11-8 record seeing most of his action at third singles. Blake Ross has 10 wins with most coming at sixth singles, while Dustin Innerst holds eight wins at fourth singles and Tim Dunn has a 7-12 mark at first singles. Esch and Warren have combined for 10 doubles wins with most coming in the second flight.
LAST MEETING: The Falcons took a 5-4 decision on Weiss Courts in the regular season meeting. Colton and Poklikuha took third doubles 8-5, while Kulkarni, Stochmal and junior
Wesley Wei won in singles.
