BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's soccer team opened the 2016 season in winning fashion Thursday night, taking a 2-1 overtime decision from Moravian. Senior
Karis Poore netted the game winner in the 93rd minute.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Scoring came at a premium, as neither team scored in the first 70-plus minutes of the contest. Freshman
Veronica Garcia broke the scoreless tie in the 72nd minute off a through ball from junior
Kristen Carrete before the Greyhounds answered right back just under two minutes later. The score would remain tied through the end of regulation time; however it took just one shot from Poore in the extra session send Arcadia home with the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: While the Knights outshot Moravian 15-11 (9-5 in shots on goal), the hosts held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
ARCADIA LEADES: Garcia and Poore each made their way onto the score sheet with unassisted goals. Seniors
Jackie Glanfield and
Lennon Kramer each fired three shots, putting two on goal. Carrete had the game's only helper.
MORAVIAN LEADERS: Gabby Stelzmiller scored the Greyhounds' goal in an unassisted effort. She also led the team with three shots.
IN GOAL: Sophomore
Evelyn Feigeles picked up the win in goal as she made four saves. Jessica Lawton took the loss for Moravian with a game-high seven saves.
UP NEXT: The Scarlet and Grey hit the road again this weekend as they take part in the Haverford Invitational Saturday and Sunday. The Knights will open with Haverford Saturday at 1 p.m.
