BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's volleyball team snapped a four-match losing streak with a 3-1 non-conference victory at Moravian College Thursday night, improving its record to 6-10 for the season. The Greyhounds fell to 9-8 with their third loss in four matches.
HOW IT HAPPENED: After falling in the first game 25-21, the Knights used an 8-1 surge to close out the second game for a 25-22 win that tied the match at 1-1. Arcadia trailed 20-19 in the third game before scoring six of the next nine points to record a 25-23 win, and pulled away late in the fourth and final set with a 10-4 run that gave it a 25-18 win in the game and a 3-1 win in the match.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Sophomore
Lizzie Joseph and freshman
Shannon Ryan led the Knights with 14 kills each; Ryan also had eight digs and two service aces. Senior
MaKenna Micklus also had a strong offensive performance with nine kills to go with four digs. Junior
Colleen Stengel tallied a match-high 40 assists, while freshman
Emily Eng totaled 18 digs to lead the team defensivley.
MORAVIAN LEADERS: Erin Tiger hit 32 percent while putting down a match-high 16 kills for the Greyhounds, while Taylor Kornmann totaled 14 kills in the match. Mary Zacher added 11 kills while totaling a match-high 26 digs.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The Knights offense improved steadily as the match wore on as the team hit 29 percent with 12 kills and just a single attack error in the fourth and final game. Arcadia hit 23 percent for the match while outscoring Moravian 68-54 thanks to a 9-2 advantage on service aces and an 8-1 advantage in blocks. The Greyhounds hit just 19 percent in the match.
