WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's tennis team opened the MAC Individual Championships Saturday afternoon at Kirby Park. Five singles players advanced to the Quarterfinals, while two doubles pairs advance to tomorrow's Semifinals.

SINGLES SUCCESS:

• Sophomore Nick Simeone, who was seeded fourth in the No. 1 singles bracket, ousted Hood's Alex Sexton 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 in the First Round. He was edged by Stevenson's Raymond McDermott in the Quarterfinals 6-2, 0-6, 10-4.
• Junior Keith Rader defeated Delaware Valley's Nick Pricetta in the First Round of the No. 2 singles bracket, by a score of 6-0, 6-0. He dropped his Quarterfinal match to Wilkes' Artym Nabokin, the bracket's top seed, 6-2, 7-5.
• In the First Round of the No. 3 singles bracket, junior John Zinzer bested Lycoming's Son Phan, 6-2, 6-0. He was downed by Stevenson's third seeded Andrew Ryan, 6-1, 6-4 in the Quarterfinals.
• Junior Jamie Zeng Zhu triumphed over Hood's Ben Deleo, 6-1, 6-3 to open play in the No. 4 singles bracket. He was bested by FDU-Florham's Chris Ly, who was seeded second in the bracket, 6-2, 6-1 in the Quarterfinals.
• Junior Tom Karkachev had the upper hand against Todd Unger from Alvernia in the First Round of the No. 5 singles bracket, winning 6-2, 6-2. He fell to fourth-seeded Doug Vaughan from Stevenson in the Quarterfinals1-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-4.
• After a first round bye, second-seeded sophomore Drake Hanak was edged by Stevenson's Richie Abruscato, 3-6 6-3, 13-11.

MOVING ON IN DOUBLES:

• Simeone and Rader triumphed over Misericordia's top doubles pair, 8-0. They dropped their Quarterfinal match against King's Nathan Carl and Tyler Millan, who were seeded fourth, 8-2.
• Zeng Zhu and Karkachev bested Eastern's Connor Mooney and Matt Cradduck, 8-1. They defeated FDU-Florham's Tyler Schacher and Chris Fiorenza, seeded fourth, 8-4 in the Quarterfinals.
• The fourth-seeded team of Zinzer and Hanak toppled Brian Hayhurst and John Karaban from DeSales, 8-2 to open the No. 3 doubles bracket. They then triumphed over Hood's Matthew Betz and Andrew Heon, 8-4 in the Quarterfinals.

THE SEMIFINALS:

• Zeng Zhu and Karkachev fell 8-2 to Wilkes' Nabokin and Jonathan White in the Semifinals of the No. 2 doubles bracket
• Zinzer and Hanak were downed by Tawhid Choudhury and Larry Scartz from Wilkes, who were seeded first, 8-0 in the No. 3 doubles bracket.
