No. 2 Women’s Soccer to Challenge No. 1 Messiah in MAC Commonwealth Championship Final

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The second-seeded Arcadia University women's soccer team travels to Grantham, Pa. Saturday evening to take on top-seeded Messiah in the MAC Commonwealth Championship Final. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
 
TICKET INFORMATION: Per conference policy, all fans must pay admission to the game. Admission fees are as follows: Adults - $5, Senior Citizens - $4, Students (with ID) and Children - $2, Pre-school (under 6) – Free.

ABOUT ARCADIA: Arcadia started its season with a 6-4 record in non-conference play, highlighted by a 3-2 triumph over then-No. 10 Swarthmore. The Knights saw great success against conference competition as it earned the second seed for the second season in a row after going 7-1 against MAC Commonwealth opponents. As a team, the Scarlet and Grey outscored their opponents 50-18 in the regular season while outshooting the opposition 318-187.
 
ARCADIA LEADERS:  Senior Jess Kelly paces the offense with 39 points, including a team-best 17 goals along with five assists. Junior Stephanie Maggio leads the team in assists with six on the year. Sophomore Veronica Garcia racked in eight goals and dished out two assists for 18 points; freshman Mackenzie Hoffman added four goals and an assist to Arcadia's scoresheet. In goal, freshman Brianna Williams posted an 12-5 record, with a 0.95 goals against average and .826 save percentage. Junior Veronica Pontis played a crucial role in the Knight's success as she quarterbacked the team's defensive line, while sophomore Amanda McHugh helped to solidify the defensive line as well as chipping in five goals in the attacking third.
 
HOW WE GOT HERE: Arcadia shutout third-seeded Widener Thursday night in the MAC Commonwealth Championship Semifinal. Sophomore Veronica Garcia met twine twice in that contest, while recorded an assist on the game's second goal.
 
ABOUT MESSIAH: Messiah enters the postseason as the top seed after a 7-0-1 record in conference play this season. The Falcons, who are ranked seventh by the United Soccer Coaches, went 14-1-3 overall, ending the regular season on a six-game winning streak. Brooke Firestone and Megan Mansfield lead the attack, each netting 8 goals on the season; Firestone also dished out a team-best 10 assists. Lydia Ewing held a 12-1-1 record in goal with a 0.13 goals on average and a .889 save average.
 
ARCADIA'S POSTSEASON HISTORY: This is the fifth consecutive year the Knights have qualified for the MAC Commonwealth Championship and third straight appearance in the conference title game. This is their eighth appearance in the MAC Commonwealth Championship Tournament since joining the league in 2008.
