Hot Start Fuels Women’s Basketball to 78-54 Win Over Alvernia on Senior Day

GLENSIDE , Pa. – The Arcadia University women's basketball team used a 50% shooting effort in the first half en route to a 78-54 win over Alvernia Saturday afternoon on Senior Day. The win moved the Knights to 7-16 on the season and 3-11 in conference play, while the Crusaders fell to 2-21 overall and 2-12 in the MAC Commonwealth.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: With the game knotted at nine midway through the opening stanza, sophomore Sammy Downham deposited a jumper to spark an 11-0 run for Arcadia over a four-minute span before the Knights took a 20-11 lead to the second quarter.
 
The second quarter proved to be Arcadia's best as the Knights outscored Alvernia 25-8 in the frame behind a 9-17 showing from the floor, including 3-4 from distance. Sophomores Susan Bossler and Olivia Roseman combined for Arcadia's final 15 points of the first half as the former netted six straight on a three and an and-one before the latter scored the final nine points on a pair of threes and an and-one. The Knights held a 45-19 led at the break.
 
ARCADIA LEADERS: Senior Maureen Fiocca led all scorers with 21 points, while posting a team-high five rebounds. Bossler contributed 19 points on 7-8 (87.5%) shooting, including 3-4 (75%) from beyond the arc. Downham rounded out the double-figure scorers with 12, while leading all players with seven steals.
 
ALVERNIA LEADERS: Megan Bruno and Maya Cooper led the way for Alvernia with 13 points, while Kiersten Ingram scored 12. Bruno pulled in a game-high seven rebounds.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Arcadia finished the game shooting 45.5% (30-66) from the floor, including 7-14 (50%) from distance, while converting 11-12 (91.7%) at the charity stripe. The Crusaders shot 35.1% (20-57) from the floor, including 9-27 (33.3%) from beyond the arc, while going 5-8 (62.5%) at the free throw line. The Knights dominated the turnover department scoring 27 points off 27 Alvernia turnovers, committing only seven turnovers as a team.
